Sunday 26th August – windsurf **** The Manor, Felixstowe – cloudy with rain later

F2 Ride 282 with Tushingham Lightning 7.0 and 38 cm fin.

26.88 knot max., 24.10 knot ave., 16.36 knot hour, 21.33 knot mile, 51.50 km., 16.60 knot alpha.

Today was a case of getting down early and have a sail before the wind gets silly strong and it rains! So, after a few messages on the Felixstowe WhatsApp page we all agreed to meet up at The Manor as the wind was SW. I arrived first at about 9 just ahead of Neil Hurrell, kit choice is the first problem as it’s hard to get an accurate reading on the wind gauge here but I went with 7m on the 115 lt while Neil rigged 6.1 on his 100lt. My plan was to go for an hour before the bad weather arrived, I put my full wetsuit on today for the first times in several sessions:( I had some nice runs out to Wadgate Post but the sea was big and messy in places so going fast was challenging but you could stay upwind easily was it was wind against tide:) I got some nice gybes in but also fell just short of the rock fish tail groyne and had to swim the gear away loosing valuable time! There where several out now including Craig,Andy, Mark, Ian,Dan and Strawberry a good turn out for a miserable day! I had been out for an hour and twenty minutes including a broad mile before returning to the beach. I then did a few more runs with the wind increasing and with the tide now tide to sea was getting bigger too. With the rain just arriving most decided to call it a day, saving themselves for ‘Big Bank Holiday Monday’ when several of us are heading into Essex to give West Mersea a try which is good in a westerly, I was going to Levington again but have changed my mind:)
